Oh How I’ve Neglected You…

July 16th, 2010

…and not by choice, I swear it.

Shortly after I finished the Spring semester I was fortunate enough to land a phlebotomy job at a hospital here in town. Let me tell you —if anyone actually reads this, I’ve been working like a maniac since. With two jobs I can only try to sleep when I’m not working, let alone think about anything else.

It’s a blessing though, since I’m moving into my apartment with my coworker August 1st! (squealllllllllllll) I’ll post up before and after pictures once everything is all situated. I promise. I will. I’ll try =P

Onto more good news —I guess it’s been a good summer, the boyfriend passed his boards on the first try! I’m so proud of him. Ugh, if only I was so dedicated and not such a slacker.

Quick update complete. I’ll be back shortly folks!

Writing For Me…

March 5th, 2010

…and not because it’s an assignment.

I’ll have to admit that it’s been a while since I’ve written purely for enjoyment and myself.  Most often the case I’ve only written what my teachers wanted for a specific assignment.  This is all draining me.  I’ve lost my creative knack.  I feel lost.  As if I don’t know how to write for myself any more.  Making excuses for myself —I only have a little left at LCC, Ingham took up most of my time, busy with work… blah blah blah.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

No more excuses.  It’s time that I sit myself in front of my laptop and just write.  Since this coming week is Spring Break and I’m going to my sister’s house I’m going to use the time that her and my BIL are at work to write.  Simply for myself and not for an assignment.  Maybe some poetry or that novel Alyssa tells me to work on.  Who knows?  All I know is that I will most definitely be writing a couple hours a day.

Wish me luck!

I’m also excited to be spending quality time with family.  What I really can’t wait to do is thrift store looting with my sister!  It has been years since we’ve gone together and since someone told me that there is a four (four I tell you) story thrift store located in her area I’m even more excited.  Oh what goodies behold me!

Random Acts of Kindness…

February 9th, 2010

…Is it a lost art?

Is it just me or is it that most people these days could care less about strangers. Those people checking you out at the super markert, the person walking by on their way to work, all those people you know nothing about. What’s going on in their lives really don’t matter to most people.

And so it shocked me when a customer at work showed me a little random act of kindness.

I was having a horrible day at work. Customers and coworkers alike were getting on my nerves. Still with a smile on my face I thanked each and every customer that I checked out. My hands were super dry so when I was counting out a woman’s change I apoloziged for being so slow. I didn’t want to short change her due to my dry hands. She then proceeded to pull out a small bottle of lotion to give me some. It felt wonderful and I asked her the brand —this is when she shocks me with something so simple. She put the bottle in my hand and told me to keep it. I told her no I couldn’t, I just wanted the brand to buy it myself. She then says that it’s far and that she had a big bottle at home so she’d be happy if I kept it.

Something so simple made me smile for the rest of the day.

It made me remember the time when I was a teen. I was at Target buying one of those gingerbread house kits they sell to make with my friends. The woman in front of me told the cashier that she would be paying for my gingerbread house. She wouldn’t take no for an answer. Again, at the time I was completely shocked. Growing up I always thought that people never, NEVER did anything unless they got something out of it. So when a complete stranger wants to buy something for your or give you something, there’s gotta be something questionable happening there.

I feel that it makes me a bit sad that I should be so shocked and doubtful when strangers do these kinds of things. It tells you a little about how our society works and how the people within it are.

My coworker said, “I’ve never had a stranger who wanted to pay for anything of mine or give me anything. You’re lucky!”

That made me wonder, am I?

You Are What You Eat…

February 2nd, 2010

…I really am a big dork.

I enjoy reading all varieties of novels and  magazines, knit, watch the Discovery channel… and I absolutely love watching documentaries.  I love the way they’re filmed, the stories they expose, and the messages.  Last night the boyfriend and I watched Food Inc., and let me tell you, it’s amazing. Absolutely —and eye opener.

Have you ever wondered why you’ve been getting sick more often than you used to?  What about where your food comes from?  How the animals you eat are treated before they reach your table —and are chemically altered at that.  These questions and more are answered in Food Inc., and the answers will have you speechless.  Or maybe not.  If you don’t care about what goes into your body than if anything it will be interesting and worth a watch in my opinion.  I felt for the featured farmers and the mother who lost her son.  I don’t know if it will drastically change how I eat but it will certainly make me look at it all differently.

//EDIT// Apparently the video was removed from YouTube to to ‘terms of use violations’ and I didn’t know. //END EDIT//

If any of you know about any interesting documentaries please let me know!  I have an open mind and love watching them.  If you end up watching it don’t be afraid to tell me your opinions/thoughts on it.

Hope you’ve had a wonderful day and a restful night.

First post…

January 31st, 2010

…Well hello there good looking!

I’ve finally decided to rejoin the masses and start up a blog again.  Although my time is restricted —what with classes, work, and clinicals… I’ll try to updated as much as I can.  At least once a week.  Hopefully.  I hope you enjoy what you read and don’t find me too boring!  I’ll make a ‘real’ post later on in the week.
